Timken Awards 17 Scholarships To Children of Employees Around the World

Live Global Webcast Hosted at World Headquarters Recognizes Scholars and Their Parents NORTH CANTON, Ohio, Feb. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR; www.timken.com), a global leader in bearings and mechanical power transmission products, awarded college scholarships to 17 sons and daughters of Timken associates in 11 locations around the world today. Valued at up to $540,000 over a four-year period, these scholarships are funded by The Timken Company Charitable and Educational Fund, Inc. The program has awarded more than $23 million in scholarships since its inception in 1958. L-R Samuel Schut, Cecilly Kelleher, Carly Huthmacher, John Timken, Jr., Laramie Scanlon, Nicholas Reese Chairman John M. Timken, Jr. hosted the recognition event for students and their families at The Timken Company World Headquarters in North Canton, Ohio. Local scholarship finalists attended the event in person, while other finalists and their parents joined via global webcast. "Each of these students have demonstrated their intellectual capability, personal drive and commitment needed to make a powerful, positive difference," said Timken. "The Timken Global Scholars program encourages these young people to explore new opportunities and share their talents with the world." The $35,000 Henry Timken Scholar Award recognizes the top-ranked applicant and is renewable for up to three additional years for a total of $140,000. This year's Henry Timken Scholar is Benjamin Koester, the son of John Koester, manager of global rail quality at the company's plant in Mascot, Tenn. Ben, a senior who has been home-schooled, will study chemical engineering at the University of Tennessee. Upon graduation, Ben plans to go to medical school after which he hopes to become a rural physician. The $25,000 Jack Timken Scholar Award was presented to Nikhila Simhadri, the daughter of Laxmi Manohar Simhadri, group leader in the company's technology center in Bangalore, India. The award is renewable for up to three additional years for a total of $100,000. After graduating from Jnana Sweekar Pre University College in Bangalore, India, Nikhila plans to pursue her bachelor of medicine in All India Medical Institute of Medical Sciences. Nikhila aspires to receive her master's degree from Harvard University, and her ultimate goal is to become an oncologist. Five students received $10,000 scholarships, renewable for up to three additional years, for a total value of $40,000 each. Carly Huthmacher, the daughter of Bari Huthmacher, principal demand planning analyst at World Headquarters in North Canton, Ohio, is a senior at Hoover High School. Carly intends to study technical theatre arts at Cleveland State University. Landon Patterson, the son of Rich Patterson, general sales manager in Peoria, Ill. A senior at Dunlap High School, Landon plans to study biomedical engineering and business at Clemson University. Laramie Scanlon, the daughter of Blake Scanlon, general manager of learning and development programs at the company's World Headquarters in North Canton, Ohio. When she graduates Jackson High School, Laramie will study chemical engineering. She is vetting several universities. Sam Schut, the son of Jeffrey Schut, principal inventory planner at the company's World Headquarters in North Canton, Ohio. A senior at GlenOak High School, Sam plans to study exercise science and minor in neuroscience at the University of Mount Union. Shashank Subramanya, the the son of H.S. Subramanya, principal analyst at the company's technology center in Bangalore, India. Shashank wants to continue his studies at either the The Indian Institute of Technology or Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, India, where he will study bio-chemical engineering. In addition, ten individuals received one-time $10,000 scholarships: Julianne Borger, the daughter of John Borger, project manager in Lebanon, N.H., is a senior at Lebanon High School. Julianne intends to study science at Smith College. Andreea-luliana Chirita, the daughter of Cristian Nicolaie Chirita, an operator at the company's bearing plant in Ploiesti, Romania, is a senior at Alexandru Ioan Cuza National College in Ploiesti, Romania. Andreea-luliana plans to study communications and public relations at the National School of Political Science and Public Administration in Bucharest, Romania. Julia Czudaj, the daughter of Dominik Czudaj, manager of tooling operation in Sosnowiec, Poland. A student at Catholic High School in Katowice, Poland, Julia aims to study the dramatic arts at the National Academy of Dramatic Art in Poland. Faraz Inbesat, the son of Raisul Azhar, maintenance operator in Jamshedpur, India. Faraz is a senior at Loyola School and plans to study mathematics and statistics at Christ University in Bangalore, India. Cecilly Kelleher, the daughter of Bill Kelleher, general manager of manufacturing strategy and continuous improvement at the company's World Headquarters in North Canton, Ohio. A senior at Jackson High School in Massillon, Cecilly plans to study biomedical engineering at either The Ohio State University or Purdue University. Zuolin Ma, the son of Jinyou Zhang, product and process manager in Yantai, China. After graduating from Yantai Number 3 Middle High School, Zuolin wants to study physics at The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Yiting Mao, the daughter of Qun Tang, operator at the company's bearing plant in Wuxi, China, is a senior at Wuxi Big Bridge Academy. Yiting plans to study mechanical and electronic engineering at Zhejiang University in China. Nicholas Reese, the son of Keith Reese, group leader of tool design and engineering at World Headquarters in North Canton, Ohio, is a senior at Tuslaw High School in Massillon. Nicholas plans to study business, accounting and sports management at Malone University. Asutosh Samal, the son of Anup Samal, senior line engineer at the company's bearing plant in Jamshedpur, India. A student at Little Flower School in Jamshedpur, Asutosh intends to study computer science at the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, India. Gaia Scarabaggio, the daughter of Marco Scarabaggio, key account manager at the company's sales office in Milan, Italy, is a student at Istituto d'Istruzione Superiore "Vilfredo Federico Pareto" in Milan. Gaia aspires to study economics and business and eventually become an entrepreneur.
